A Statement of Intent (SoI) was signed between Atal Innovation Mission (“AIM”), NITI Aayog and 4 organizations from Singapore – The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Singapore, IIT Alumni Association Singapore (IITAA), Pan IIM Alumni (PIIMA), and The Indian School of Business Alumni Association – Singapore Chapter (ISBAAS) for cooperation in India’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Under this SoI, National Institution for Transforming India (“NITI Aayog”) will collaborate with the Singapore based organizations by tapping TiE Singapore members’ and Singapore’s IIT, IIM, ISB alumni’s relevant expertise to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in India, under the aegis of AIM. This collaboration is also to enable Indian innovators to explore regional and global growth potential through Singapore.

The primary focus communities in India for this initiative are students, Startups / MSMEs and rural communities.

Mr. Puneet Pushkarna, Chairman of TiE Singapore, said, “Backed with a strong intellectual capital, TiE hopes to support the vibrant startup ecosystem in India and foster innovation among students and startups, both in the urban and rural communities. This partnership with Atal Innovation Mission will further strengthen the bridge between India and Singapore’s startup ecosystem, and TiE hopes to be the door opener for innovators from India and to enhance market access opportunities for them in the region and beyond. “

Areas of Collaboration

TiE Singapore/PIIMA/IITAA/ISBAAS will identify a few specific projects based on the below areas and will endeavour to promote knowledge and information exchange and dissemination in AIM’s initiatives like:

• Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL): Atal Tinkering Labs are dedicated works spaces where students (Class 6th to Class 12th) learn to tinker for developing their innovation skills and work on their ideas that will go on to transform India. The labs are powered to acquaint students with state-of-the-art equipment such as 3D printers, robotics & electronics development tools, IoT & sensors etc.

• Mentor India: Mentor India is a strategic nation building initiative to engage leaders who can guide and mentor students in Atal Tinkering Labs, and enable students to experience, learn and practice future skills such as design and computational thinking.

• Atal Incubation Centres (AIC): These centres would nurture innovative start-up businesses in their pursuit to become scalable and sustainable enterprises. Along with AICs, AIM shall also provide scale-up support to a few distinguished incubation centres of the country.

• Atal New India Challenges (ANIC): Atal New India Challenge is an initiative by Atal Innovation Mission aimed at supporting innovators to create products/solutions based on advanced technologies in areas of national importance and social relevance through a grant-based mechanism.

The organizations also intend to work towards developing Technical Assistance which can facilitate AIM to avail the expertise of the alumni by way of capacity building, consulting and advisory services.

TiE Singapore/PIIMA/IITAA/ISBAAS will create awareness and enable interested members in the community to engage with ATLs, AICs and/or specific solutions across AIM through NITI AAYOG; and also help identify relevant companies from Singapore/ASEAN (social enterprises as well as commercial entities) with appropriate solutions for AIM initiatives and connect the with NITI AAYOG for India access.
